On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the students in Heather Turner and Megan Hedrick's FSS classes from Middle School West had an exceptional experience at Littleton's Market Bakery at North Market Downtown. Their head baker, Desi Vasquez, gave students a tour of their beautiful bakery, where she shared about working in a bakery, talked them through how they bake bread and other treats and helped students bake focaccia bread pizzas for the group.
Vasquez also arranged for someone from the North Market to give them a tour and discuss the market's history, current vendors and different jobs. The class saw how some of their favorite foods are made and then enjoyed delicious pizza!
In addition to donating time, energy and a delicious lunch, students were given a giant chocolate chip cookie and a whole loaf of freshly baked bread (the loaves they got to see go into the oven) to take home!
The students and staff are thankful for the generosity and kindness of Vasquez and her team at Littleton's Bakery. Experiences like this highlight the strength of community connections and their ability to enrich your students' learning experiences.
