On January 10, 2024, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools Board of Education president and member Beryl Brown Piccolantonio resigned from her position on the Board, effective immediately, to accept an appointment to the Ohio House of Representatives, District 4.
“I would like to thank Mrs. Brown Piccolantonio for her countless hours supporting the students in our District,” Superintendent Dr. Tracey Deagle said. “Mrs. Brown Piccolantonio’s advocacy for public education has been felt statewide. We wish her the best in her next phase of public service.”
Brown Piccolantonio served on the GJPS Board of Education for eight years.
“On behalf of the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools Board of Education, we are thankful for the valuable expertise, knowledge and commitment to service Mrs. Brown Piccolantonio brought forward every day serving our District,” Board Vice President Kara Coates said. “We fully support her decision and are thankful she will continue supporting our communities and being a voice for public education moving forward.”
According to Policy 0145, the GJPS Board of Education has a duty to appoint a replacement for the now open seat. Applications are available for community members who wish to be considered for the opening and that application window will remain open until January 14 at 11:59 p.m. Our current Board members will conduct interviews during executive session January 18 with the intention of appointing the new Board member at the February 1 Board of Education Workshop meeting.
